Wenzel Sunward 30-Degree Sleeping Bag

Wenzel Sunward 30 Degree Sleeping Bag

The Wenzel Sunward 30 degree sleeping bag is a quality sleeping bag that is available at a bargain price compared to other bags of the same quality. The Wenzel sunward does an excellent job of keeping me warm on cold nights. Although I must admit, most of my camping trips occur  in Texas, so my definition of cold might be a little different from somebody from, say Wisconsin or Maine. Wenzel says the bag is good for mild weather camping. I’m sorry, but the thirties are cold in my book. My tolerance for cold aside, I’ve slept in this bag in temperatures as low as 40 degrees and felt cozy throughout the night. As comfy as I stayed at 40 degrees, I believe this bag would do well in the thirty degree range  that it is made for. This has been a mild winter so far in 2011–2012 for Texas, so if I get a chance to test these bags at thirty degrees, I will update this review.

Wenzel Sunward 30-Degree Sleeping Bag Comfort

The Sunward 30 degree sleeping bag is filled with four pounds of hypoallergenic Insul-Therm polyester fiberfill. So people with allergies to certain fabrics shouldn’t have issue with this bag. At four pounds this is not too heavy of a bag for the thirty degree class of bags. Wenzel designed the sleeping bag with quilt through construction to keep the filling from getting bunched up, thus preventing aggravating cold spots and annoying lumps that could interrupt your sleeping. The outside of the sleeping bag is made of a durable polyester that should last for many camping trips.

The Wenzel Sunward thirty degree sleeping bag is equipped with two straps that make folding up, storing, and traveling with it a no hassle experience. The self repairing zipper is another feature that I like about this bag as zippers are one of the leading issues that cause campers to throw away a sleeping bag.

Immeasurable 77 inches in length the Sunward should hold people of above average height. One of my friends is six feet and one inch tall and he fit  in the Sunward without any complaints. The inner liner is a comfortable polyester pongee, making the night a pleasurable experience. We used these bags with and without air mattresses underneath. When we went without the  mattresses, these bags were still comfortable through-out the night. The Thermarest Collapsible Pillow is a good companion to this bag as they both are easy to store and carry.

Wenzel Alpine  Dome 3-Person Tent Review

Wenzel Alpine 8.5 X 8-Feet Dome Tent with fly

Wenzel Alpine 8.5 X 8-Feet Dome Tent with fly

The Wenzel Alpine three person dome tent is a nice tent for its price range. There are better three person tents available but they will cost nearly three times as much as the Alpine.

Getting the Wenzel Alpine set up and ready to go can be accomplished rather quickly. With only three poles to work with, no wonder it is so easy. In fact, if you’ve ever set up a tent before, you can probably get this one up without even reading the directions. Of course reading the directions first is always advisable. Plus the pole pockets simplify the whole process. Taking the Alpine down is easy as well. One person is all that is needed. The rain fly is pretty small so putting it on is a snap also.

The Wenzel Alpine does pretty good in light rain and maybe some light wind. This tents’ fabric is the typical weather armor with reinforced floor and strong seams and all those good marketing terms that make tents sound like they could withstand a hurricane. The truth is, this tent will withstand light rain just fine, but the rain fly is so small that it does not cover the windows, meaning you can’t open them for good ventilation during the rain. Of course in dry weather, this isn’t a problem at all. I do like the attached floor mat with drainage that helps to keep the inside of the tent clean.

Wenzel Alpine 8.5 X 8-Feet Dome Tent wofly

Wenzel Alpine 8.5 X 8-Feet Dome Tent wofly

The Wenzel Alpine is touted as eight feet by eight and a half feet, but with its pentagon shape, these dimensions are from the longest points and no single wall actually measures this long. This could cause a problem if trying to sleep a tall person or even three adults. One adult with a couple of children or three children will fit fine. Two adults will fit as long as the adults aren’t both over six feet tall. If you must sleep three adults, I would say that the Wenzel Alpine is not for you unless you are much shorter than average people.

The large D shaped door is a nice touch. The zipper also runs smoothly without snagging, which is uncommon in tents that are this reasonably priced. There is a small loft that is great for placing personal items like wallets or cell phones. The Wenzel Alpine is very light-weight; about eight pounds, making it ideal for biking, hiking, or motorcycle trips. It would also make a good tent for music festivals and the like.

The Wenzel Alpine Dome Tent, while having a few flaws is a great tent for the kids. They will find it simple to set up and carry themselves, also will be able to fit in it without trouble. Order your Wenzel Alpine Dome Tent from Amazon Today while it is discounted and available with free shipping!

Wenzel Klondike 16 X 11-Feet Eight-Person Family Cabin Dome Tent Rain fly

Wenzel Klondike 16 X 11-Feet Eight-Person Family Cabin Dome Tent Rain fly

 wenzel tent review

The Wenzel Klondike Eight Person Family Cabin Dome Tent is room enough to live up to its title and put up eight people for the night. Although it will be a tight fit, unless some of the campers are children. Measuring sixteen feet by eleven feet there is even space to store your accessories and luggage. The ceiling height is six and a half feet in the center and being a dome tent the height tapers towards the edges but is still near six feet on the edge. Most people will be able to walk around the Wenzel Klondike without bending or bumping your head. There is over 158 square feet of floor space including the sun room. The sun rooms mesh  walls can close giving you more space. At 27 pounds the Klondike is too heavy for hiking and backpacking, which is expected for family camping tents.

Raising the Klondike took less than twenty minutes the first time. We now are able to get it up in around fifteen minutes. Setting it up does require two people due to the large size. The rain fly reminds me of  a baseball cap the way it fits over the dome and then gets flat. It was easy to put on as well, but also took two people to get it right. The poles are shock corded which makes assembly go a little smoother.

Wenzel Klondike Eight-Person Family Cabin Dome Tent w/o rain fly

Wenzel Klondike Eight-Person Family Cabin Dome Tent w/o rain fly

The Wenzel Klondike has all the weather features we’ve come to expect in modern tent and then some. The Weather Armor polyester fabric repels water. It hasa polyurethane coating that not only helps keep rain out but it helps keep in the warm air if you have all the screened areas closed up.  the seams are double stitches for extra water protection. The tent is designed with power corners that help keep it upright during heavy winds. The dome tent shape also helps with the wind. With the rain fly removed  the roof is all mesh not only giving you great views of the night sky but allowing for extra air flow on hot nights. There is a rear vent near the floor that allows a ground  breeze so staying cool should never be  a problem.

The Wenzel Klondike comes with a screen room in the front is a great place to get some shade. We like eating our meals here to keep the flys off of our food. the screens close allowing for extra sleeping space, storage area, or just a place to kick off your shoes before entering the main tent. there are two pockets that hang to give you some extra storage space, and we all need that.

Wenzel Ridgeline 7 X 7-Feet Three-Person Dome Tent Review

Wenzel Ridgeline Size

The Wenzel Ridgeline Three Person dome Tent is one of our favorite small tents. It is big enough to sleep three comfortably, but weighing in at under seven pounds it is light enough to carry with you while hiking, biking, or boating. The light weight allows you to venture further before setting up camp. If you desire a separate tent for the children the Ridgeline is perfect for that. The kids like having their own tent and the adults get some privacy, which can be scarce on camping trips with the family. The Ridgeline while designed for three people is also good for one or two people that just need a little extra space for storage or a pet. It is a dome tent that is just a little over four feet tall so standing will not be an option for most of us. the base measures seven by seven feet, providing forty nine square feet, making for a rather small footprint.

Wenzel Ridgeline Weather

Most modern tents offer pretty good weather protection and the Wenzel Ridgeline is no different. The fabric is coated and the seams are reinforced so leaking should not be an issue. The threads are also made to keep out the water. The rain fly covers the roof vents and works well. The extra strong tub floor keeps out the ground water. The Ridgeline has a low enough profile that wind is unlikely to blow it over. The screened door and window combined with the screened roof provide ample ventilation and airflow.

 Wenzel Ridgeline Set Up

Setting up the Wenzel Ridgeline is a very simple t task. This is another reason this is a good tent for the children. They can set it up themselves. It is basically just two poles. The shock corded fiberglass frame along with the pin and ring system are the main reasons for the easy set up. there is no reason the Ridgeline should take more than ten minutes to erect. It can be done by a single person as well.

Ridgeline  Other Features

The D style door is nice and makes entering the tent a little less of a hassle compared to normal tent doorways. The zippers are strong and don’t break easily. There is a gear loft and some pockets that are great for storage of your camping  accessories. We also like that the rain fly makes a small awning providing a little extra shade. I found the tent east to get back into its storage bag once we took it down.

If you are looking for a tent to keep you dry while remaining simple to assemble and light to carry you should check out Amazon for current pricing on the Wenzel Ridgeline 7 X 7-Feet Three-Person Dome Tent . Free Shipping is usually available for this item also, so check it soon to make sure it is still available. This is a perfect tent for solo, couples, or the children.

Wenzel Great Basin Nine-Person Two-Room Family Dome Tent Review

Wenzel Great Basin Nine-Person Two-Room Family Dome Tent Review

Wenzel Great Basin 18 X 10-Feet Nine-Person Two-Room Family Dome Tent

Wenzel Great Basin 18 X 10-Feet Nine-Person Two-Room Family Dome Tent

The Wenzel’s Size

The Wenzel Great Basin is a pretty big tent that is designed to sleep nine people. It lives up to its designers intentions rather well as nine people could fit for the night rather easily. At 18 feet by 10 feet space will never be an Issue with this Wenzel. If you do use it to sleep nine then you will have practically no room for a living area for those that like tables and chairs in their tents, but sleeping seven or eight will leave some more room for that type of stuff. At 70 inches tall most people should be able to stand rather easily while inside of the Wenzel Great Basin.

Wenzel Great Basin Weather Resistance

Weather shouldn’t be an issue with the tub style floor that is welded not sewn which means no leaky needle wholes allowing water in to ruin your camping trip. There is great ventilation provided by two large mesh windows and two large side by side mesh  D Doors. The rain fly is large enough to cover the roof area and keep out the rain. This isn’t the greatest wind resistant tent, but should do well for those that aren’t camping in the windiest of conditions.

Great Basin Set Up

We found the set up of the Wenzel to be easy for two people, although one person might have a difficult time due to the size of the tent unless that one person has very long arms. The corded frame and pin and ring system help make the set up easier. I estimate average set up times to be between 15 and 30 minutes depending on your tent set up experience level.

Other features

The Wenzel Great Basin Nine person two room tent is equipped with a divider that allows the tent to function as one large room are two separate rooms allowing for privacy or just making a sleeping and living room. There are two lofts for storing all your  equipment, backpacks and the like. There are also a couple of storage pockets that are handy for storing knick knacks.

Summary

The Wenzel Great Basin is a good tent. There are better tents on the market but not for such a good price. The is tons of space for a tent priced this low. Check to see if there is still a 50% discount on the Wenzel Great Basin 18 X 10-Feet Nine-Person Two-Room Family Dome Tent on Amazon.   It is also available with free shipping.
