Coleman SunDome 3-Person Dome Tent Review

Coleman SunDome 7-Foot by 7-Foot 3-Person Dome Tent

Coleman SunDome 7-Foot by 7-Foot 3-Person Dome Tent

The Coleman SunDome 3 person Tent is not a large tent. It measures seven feet by seven feet and sleeps three people comfortably. Not suitable for a large family, but it is a great tent for three, although it will fit a queen sized air mattress. The center height is only a little over four feet so standing is not an option with the Sun Dome. But one benefit of the the size is that it weighs in at just over eight pounds, so carrying it to a distant camping spot will be easy work, unlike some of the thirty and forty pound larger capacity family tents. The light weight makes it a good option for backpacking. It also serves well in letting the children have their own tent.

Set up of the Coleman SunDome 7-Foot by 7-Foot 3-Person Dome Tent (Orange/Gray)is fast and easy and should take no more than ten minutes to complete. It could take a few minutes longer if you are new to tent assembly. Have a practice run in the back yard before you get to the camp ground. Color coded poles and Instaclip attachments, and the domed two pole design make are among the features that aide in a quick set up. Taking the SunDome down is also a very easy task.

The Coleman SunDome 3 person Tent comes with the Coleman WeatherTec System which keeps out all the rain by using water resistant fabric, water proof floors, and zipper protection. The wind strong frame and domed shape help stand up to very strong winds so that you are sure to not be blown away. Except maybe by the ventilation. With a Ground Vent and a Privacy vent window fresh air will find you even inside of the tent.

The Coleman SunDome is a great tent for those that don’t need a lot of indoor space. The size could be restrictive for those who need more space, but if that’s the case you probably wouldn’t be reading a review of a three person tent. The Weather Resistance is top notch. This is a solid tent that is a good deal for any camper. Free shipping is usually available. Click here to check pricing and availability at Amazon.

Coleman Montana 8 Person Tent Review

Coleman Montana 8 Person Tent

Coleman Montana 8 Person Tent

The Coleman Montana Eight Person Tent is a big tent but not too big, measuring sixteen feet by seven feet, Coleman claims it can sleep eight comfortably. I have no reason to doubt that it can, but we only slept three in the Montana but there was much room left over that if we had more campers on the trip they could have fit easily. The center height is about six feet and two inches so there should be ample headroom for most people. The hinged door is a cool feature that cuts down on the wear and tare on the zipper. Often times the zipper is the first thing to go on a tent basically rendering the tent useless. Not with a hinged door.

The Coleman Montana 8 Tent has all the weather resistant features you’ve come to expect from the Coleman WeatherTec System. Leak Free Seams, weather resistant fabric,Waterproof floors, zipper protection, and a wind strong frame all work together to make the Coleman Montana 8 Person  an excellent tent for standing up to the worst of Mother Nature has to throw at you. The rain Fly covers enough area in front of the tent door to allow for three chairs.

The set up of the Montana 8 is pretty easy. Most people will have no problem setting it up as the instructions are straight forward and there are several features that help make sure you are putting the right piece in the right place. Two people may be required for assembly. It is rather difficult alone but can be accomplished if you have a long reach. There is a port for ventilation and passing electrical cords or smores through. The attached feet wiping mat is a nice bonus that helps to keep dirt where it belongs, outside of the tent.

I really like the colors of this tent. The green earth tones are easy on the eyes in an outdoor while in the outdoors It holds its on against the weather, and set-up is relatively simple. The Coleman Montana 8 Tent is a really good tent that is usually found at a low price. Free shipping is usually available. Click Here to see if it is still 27% off at Amazon!

Coleman WeatherMaster Screened 6 Person Tent Review

Coleman WeatherMaster Screened 6 Person Tent

Coleman WeatherMaster Screened 6 Person Tent

Set Up of the  Coleman WeatherMaster

Setting up the Coleman WeatherMaster Screened 6 Tent was quite an easy task compared to most 6 person tents, and I did it alone. A much shorter person could also set it up solo, although an extra set of hands would make the process a little quicker.  Color coded poles and the continuous pole sleeves are a couple of reasons for the simplicity of the set up. The pin and ring design and the Insta-clip attachments also simplify the process. The instructions, sewn into the carry bag, are as easy to follow as they could possibly be, but we here at Family Tent Reviews are  rather experienced in tent assembly. Those inexperienced in tent set up should have few practice runs in the backyard to make sure things will go smoothly on camping day.  Dis-assembly was simple as well. The real shocker was how easy I got the tent back into the carry bag without even folding it up very neatly.

Weather Resistance of the WeatherMaster

You can be assured with a name like Weathermaster that this tent will hold up to the elements. On a recent camping trip I set this Coleman up for some young relatives, it rained for nearly the whole week and not a drop made its way inside. I did use an extra tarp under the tent as I always do, although the waterproof floors probably would have held up on their own. Made of weather resistant fabric coated with polyester and webbing and zippers designed to keep water out you are sure to remain dry during rainy weather. The rain fly is large enough to  cover the doors and windows. The wind strong frame was engineered to  hold up to pretty strong winds. The screened room and all mesh ceiling greatly increase ventilation helping to cool down the tent, which are my favorite features while camping in South Texas. An air flow port is also built into the tent, but most tents have these now days. There are lots of windows to help keep you cools as well.

Size of the  Weathermaser 6 Person Tent

The Coleman Weathermaster 6 is designed for sleeping six people. It can do this , but it will be rather tight. five will fit more comfortably. When set up it measures seventeen feet by nine feet. At  36 pounds it is rather heavy if you plan on backpacking it very far. The tent has two interior rooms which is good for privacy or having a recreation are for cards, eating, etc. There is one outside screened area that is great for getting away from the bugs or just getting some shade.there are two doors, one of which is actually hinged. The ceiling is rather high at over 70 inches in center.

Additional Features

The air cool port is a cool feature for running extension cords or reaching outside of the tent to reach the cooler.  The all mesh ceiling offers a nice view if you have the rainfly off. There is a loop on the ceiling for hanging lights.

Cons of the Coleman WeatherMaster

The stakes are not the best quality. They never are anymore regardless of which tent you buy. I always recommend buying additional stakes, preferably some made of steel instead of plastic. Also the  rainfly doesn’t cover all of the porch room. This isn’t really an issue unless you plan on sleeping in the screened porch room or storing something there that could be damage by the rain. Probably shouldn’t store that kind of stuff in the screened room anyway.

Summary

The Coleman WeatherMaster 6 Person Tent is one of the better weather resistant tents out there.  If you don’t like or need the screened porch feature you could just pick up a Coleman WeatherMaster 8 which is basically the same ten except with a closed in room where the screened room is on the weathermaster 6 person. The screened porch is a great feature in my opinion though, but I can understand why some might not want or need it. This is a good Family Tent. Click Coleman WeatherMaster Screened 6 Tent to check if it is still 36% off and to see if free shipping is still available from Amazon.

Coleman Red Canyon Tent Review

8 Person Dome Tent

Size of Coleman Red Canyon

This Coleman Red Canyon 17-Foot by 10-Foot 8-Person Modified Dome Tent is a large family sized tent. Measuring 17 by 10 feet it sleeps up to 8 people comfortably. Although if your family or friends are large size 6 may be a more realistic number. With a 72 inch center height most people can maneuver within the tent without any problems. With these large dimensions fitting the whole family in a single tent should be a breeze. It also features removable privacy walls that allow you to choose whether you’d like 1 large space or 2 or 3 smaller spaces. This is great for separating misbehaving children or just getting a little privacy from your friends and family.

Red Canyon Dimensions:

Width: 17 by 10 feet

Height: 72 inches in center

Weather Resistance of Coleman Red Canyon

red canyon interior

red canyon-interior

The Coleman Red Canyon is a weather resistant tent that features Coleman’s exclusive Weathertec System and Leak-Free protected seams. The Red Canyon is made of a Coated polyester fabric with anti-wicking thread for further rain protection. And if that wasn’t enough, a rain-fly to cover the tent is also included. The doors are also protected from weather by the zipper cuffs. With the wind strong frame that uses guy-out triangles you are not likely to have the tent blown away which is a possibility with lesser tents in the wrong weather conditions. This thing held up for me in 20 mph winds without any problems. I’d bet it hold up in much heavier winds also. My favorite part of the weather resistance is the water-proof floor. Being protected from the rain is great but not having to sleep in a puddle is even better. I love this tent on long camping trips that make the weather harder to predict.

Set Up of the Red Canyon

Red Canyon

Red Canyon

Set up of the Coleman Red Canyon 8 Person Tent is rather easy. My first practice run took my 30 minutes by myself. With the help of my 2 nephews it took 15 minutes. With a little practice I suspect the time could be cut even more. Easy instructions are sewn right onto the storage bag. The shock corded color coded poles made the assembly process headache free. Getting the rain tarp over alone can be tricky for a shorter person alone, but possible. For taller people putting on the rain tarp should be no problem.

Additional Features

Extra features of the Red Canyon include a Cool-Air port for adjusting ventilation or moving your stuff through. I found this feature a little odd looking but it did help cool off the tent which was greatly appreciated in the Texas heat on my last camping trip to Lake Caddo. A welcome mat comes with the tent helping to keep the floors clean. Interior pockets also aide in keeping the place neat, clean, and organized. Separate storage bags for the tent and the poles help prevent damage to the tent and help with organization. The Red Canyon is a good tent for running a clean camp.

Coleman Red Canyon Cons

The only con to this tent is the height on the ends of the tent are shorter than the center. Some ducking may be required in the two end rooms.

Summary

All in all the Coleman Red Canyon family sized tent is highly recommended and is priced much lower than tents that offer similar features. As a matter of fact it is the lowest priced tent I’ve found of this size. Free shipping is likely available. Click to see if the Coleman Red Canyon 17-Foot by 10-Foot 8-Person Modified Dome Tent is still 36% off the regular price at Amazon and get your camping trip started off the right way, that is, dry with room to stretch out.  And don’t forget to read our other 8 Person Tent Reviews.

Coleman Instant 8 Person Family Tent Review

 Set Up

The Coleman Instant 8– Person Tent is the easiest and quickest tent assembly I have ever experienced. I don’t believe that there is another tent on the market of this size that can be assembled with such ease and speed. This is a feature I should always look for when I buy a tent. Many claim quick set-up but the Coleman Instant delivers in a way I never would have expected. The pole system comes pre-attached to the tent which is the key to the simplicity of it all. Once the tent is unfolded and spread you simply extend the tent poles, snap them together, then lock them in.If your number one buying point is assembly ease then this tent will not disappoint. Coleman claims assembly and collapse is possible in under a minute, but actually spreading the tent out and setup took me about 5 minutes the first couple of times but was able to get the time down to about two and a half minutes once I got used to it. I was able to set it up by myself. Since the frame and poles don’t come apart you also don’t have to worry about losing parts which can be a problem for the absent minded among us (myself included). There is nothing worse than being in the process of setting up your tent at a site only to realize you are missing pieces. That will never happen with the Coleman Instant 8 person Tent. This is among the many reasons I believe this is one of the best multi person tents available at the moment.

Coleman Instant Tent

Coleman Instant Tent

 Size

The Coleman Instant is a huge tent. Measuring 14 by 10 feet at the base it will sleep 8 people comfortably. The center height is 6 feet and 5 inches so hardly anyone will have to stoop while inside of the tent. The tent comes with one room divider making 2 rooms possible and lessening the chance of sleeping in the same room with the in-laws or the kids. The tent also has two doors for easy access. If the Coleman Instant 8 Person Tent is too much for your need it is available in a smaller size.

Tent Dimensions:

Width: 14 feet by 10 feet.

Height: 6 feet 5 inches

Weather Resistance of Instant Tent

The Coleman Instant Tent has the WeatherTec system and waterproof walls (made of coated polyester) to help keep you dry, but it does not include a separate rainfly. Unless its a severe thunderstorm you’ll stay dry, but if your planning on doing a lot of camping or camping in hot weather, buying a universal rainfly will allow you to keep the windows down for ventilation while raining in windy conditions. The tent has a welded waterproof floor so you will stay dry and puddle free, but adding a tarp underneath is still a good idea for extra protection. Another weather feature is the wind responsive frame which will keep you from blowing away during heavy winds. The tent has large windows, seven of them surrounding it. They are great for keeping cool and ventilating the tent with fresh air. The windows also provide a view of all sides of the tent so you can keep an eye on the kids ‚the BBQ,and the campfire, or just for enjoying the scenery.

Additional Features

Additional features of the Coleman Instant Tent include an interior pocket for helping you stay organized. Easy instructions are sewn into the carrying bag. You probably will only need these once but great to have handy.

Cons of the Coleman Instant Tent

There are not many cons to this tent but there are a couple minor ones. The pegs are not the best quality. This is a common issue with most tents available these days. It is  always advisable to buy some sturdier pegs with any tent you purchase. Putting the tent back in the bag can be a problem, but I seem to always have this problem with big camping tents (probably due more to my impatience.)

Summary

Overall this is a great 8 person family tent. This is one of the best tents for sale in my opinion. The set up and disassembly couldn’t be any easier and the weather resistance is above expectations. Free Shipping is available at Amazon. Click Here to see if The Coleman Instant 8 Person Tent is still 26% off the regular price.
